The Madwoman in the Volvo

Sandra Tsing Loh, comedienne, commentator and author is on a southland book tour for her book “The Madwoman in the Volvo—My Year of Raging Hormones.”

Dr. Sklar met her last week at her book presentation and signing.  Sandra humorously told of the indignities of getting older (dry shins and dry vagina) as well as falling apart emotionally.

The title of her book comes from an incident where she had to pull her Volvo to the side of the road while having a meltdown as the cumulative pressures of single motherhood and menopause collided.  She also told of hot flashes, insomnia, gaining weight around the middle, as well as embarrassing memory problems—serious topics discussed in an entertaining way.
It’s a shame that Sandra suffered unnecessarily.  She didn’t have good guidance during a difficult time of life.

Hormone restoration with bioidentical hormones relieves all of these symptoms and creates a smooth transition from peri-menopause to menopause.

At the Sklar Center our specialty is optimizing health while balancing hormones. When I met Sandra I told her,  “I’m a hormone doctor. If only I had met you before you went through menopause.  I could have saved you a whole lot of trouble.” I gave her my business card.  Let’s see if she gets in touch.

Dancing & Cognition

Little did I know when I sent out my blog last week about taking a hip hop class for fun that there actually is scientific evidence about the value of dance in preventing cognitive decline.
