Fully half of all people have a heart attack as their first sign of heart disease and for 25% of these people, their heart attack is fatal. And fully half of all people who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol levels. So, what are we missing here?
Cholesterol is not the predictor of heart attacks and strokes. An evaluation of your arteries is the predictor. At the Sklar Center for Restorative Medicine we “look” into your arteries with the help of a specialized ultrasound video. If you have increased risk of heart attacks and strokes based on this test, an evaluation can take place as to the cause of your increased risk. This includes an advanced evaluation of your cholesterol, not the usual cholesterol panel. It allows us to see if you have the type of cholesterol that forms plaque.
We also look at the underlying causes of plaque. Diet, gluten, periodontal disease, and blood sugar regulation problems are the real causes.
So, don’t be fooled into thinking that cholesterol is the problem. Cardiovascular disease is the result of poor diet, gluten reactions, periodontal disease and blood sugar problems. Your abnormal cholesterol is actually a healthy response to these underlying problems. So, instead of suppressing your healthy response, let’s work on the real solutions to cardiovascular disease—proper diet, exercise, elimination of gluten and other allergenic foods, proper dental evaluation and treatment.
Medications to lower cholesterol are not the answer. It has been shown in one very large study of over 300,000 people that proper diet and exercise work equally as well as medication in preventing death and disability from diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Time to find the real culprits and eliminate them!
